Stronger, More Stable Dentures

One of the disadvantages of full dentures is that over time they might not fit as well as they used to due to changes in your jaw. Dental implants are often a solution to this problem, but you don’t need to get a separate implant post to replace each tooth. Thanks to the All-on-4 procedure, Dr. Capua can fully restore your smile with just four dental implants. Contact our office for a dental implant evaluation to see if All-on-4 is right for you.

How Do All-on-4 Implants Work?

Four dental implants (small, titanium posts used to support dentures and other dental restorations) are surgically placed in the jaw. The location for each post is chosen very carefully, and the implants near the back of the mouth are inserted at an angle. This way, they’re able to fuse with the densest areas of the bone. Doing so allows them to provide strong, stable support for an entire arch of teeth. Unlike with traditional dentures, your new teeth will be fixed in place in your mouth, and the implants supporting them will help prevent bone loss in your jaw.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Implants?

Dental implants and dentures

If you have lost all or most of the teeth in your upper or lower jaw, or if you are tired of your traditional dentures slipping, you should consider the All-on-4 procedure as an option. Even patients who have already suffered from bone loss can consider this procedure, as it often reduces the need for bone grafts. We will need to confirm that you’re in good oral health. If you have any form of gum disease, it will need to be treated before the surgery; otherwise it might cause early dental implant failure.

What are the Benefits of All-on-4 Implants?

  • Compared to dentures, dental implants are more permanent; they can last for 30 years or a lifetime depending on the care they receive.
  • Your new teeth will not slip if they are connected to dental implants.
  • The implants will stimulate your jaw and prevent it from changing shape due to bone loss.
  • Implant-retained dentures are easier to take care of; you can brush and floss them like you would normal teeth.
  • Once you’ve received your permanent new teeth, you’ll be able to eat anything you want.
  • Many patients find that dental implants feel like their natural teeth.

All-on-4 VS Traditional Dental Implants

Since bone loss is a natural consequence of losing your teeth, bone grafting is often a necessary step in the dental implant process. However, the All-on-4 procedure takes advantage of the area near the front of the jaw where the most bone is located. As a result, bone grafting can be avoided altogether.

Because of how All-on-4 implants are placed, they can often support temporary dentures right away. This means you’ll have teeth to eat and smile with while the implants are fusing to the bone. With traditional implants, you would have to wait until the posts were able to support permanent dentures to enjoy new teeth.
